Pilates & Yoga

I’ve run a lot of miles in my time, done a tonne of high impact high intensity classes, a handful of half marathons and 2 full marathons. I love that this has been my journey. I wouldn’t change a thing, because these are my lessons. In 2015 though I started to get bored of turning up everyday to smash my body, the daily grind was wearing me out. I craved more meaningful and medicinal movement. So I took a year off running and purely did yoga for 12 months. I loved everything about Yoga. It felt like it was an exercise that was a way of showing my body I loved it. After a year of this I felt like I wanted some more strenuous activity. So, I signed up to a functional fitness gym. I became a Functional Fitness Groupie. I did 1-2 classes every day. My body was fit looking, but also serious muscle imbalances resulted, and then injuries. One of the injuries saw my hamstrings start to tear off the sit bones, and therefore Yoga became painful. In 2016 I saw health practitioners who I felt just wanted to take my money, and never really see me heal. I was in pain and didn’t know what to do.

This led me to Pilates. I was told it could help so I gave it a go. I started at a studio called Karv by Karina. And like magic Pilates changed my body. I got so strong and my injuries improved out of sight. I now combine Yoga, Pilates, with some Running and Functional Fitness. But without Pilates this would have never been possible. After falling so in love with Pilates I had a plan for what I wanted to do with my life. I felt so passionate about these types of methods I did my 200hr Yoga Teacher Training with Power Living. Followed then by the intensive Stott Pilates Certification, and then Barre. Study of the body gave me a new awareness around movement and how to help not just myself, but others as well. Yoga and Yogic Philosophy will always be my number 1 love, but Pilates has given me a strength that I never knew I had, and made my Yoga practice stronger and safer. Now when I occasionally injure myself, I can unravel the why myself, and then remedy myself. I’m now a Pilates and Yoga, Teacher and forever a Student. I teach all sorts of people, all with different goals and needs. I specifically love to teach HIIT style Mat Pilates and Reformer Pilates 1 on 1’s, small groups and large groups, at Karv and One Hot Yoga and Pilates, often with a yoga feel, and often to 90s r and b.
